Enhanced filtering on the Deputy schedule - get early access here!

We've made it even easier to narrow down to the right group team members by adding the ability to filter your employee list by as many criteria as you need. We've added some much requested options such as:

  • Employment type
  • Locations
  • Stress profiles
  • Tags

just to name a few. This will be rolling out before the end of the year, but as a nice simple lightweight change, we are now opening this up to any customers who need greater flexibility when it comes to honing into specific sets of staff members and shifts when scheduling.

📲🖥️💬 Introducing Deputy Messaging! 📲🖥️💬

We’re making team communication instant, effortless, and built right into Deputy—so you can connect where work happens, without juggling multiple apps.

What is Deputy Messaging?

  • Instant group and direct messaging – Chat with individuals or groups, instantly reaching the right people.
  • Location channels – Dynamic channels for every location, updating automatically when staff join, leave, or move.
  • Media and file sharing – Share images, documents, videos, and links directly in chats.
  • Integrated communication experience – Messaging is part of the same Deputy app you already use to schedule, manage, and check in with your team—no extra logins or switching tools. Available on both mobile and web.

Why we built it

Until now, teams who used Deputy relied on a mix of external messaging apps, SMS, email, or Deputy News Feed – making it hard to keep everyone aligned, especially when rosters change. Deputy Messaging helps you:

  • Keep all work conversations in one place
  • Cut down admin with automatically updated groups and channels
  • Prepare for advanced Messaging+ features coming later this year

Rollout

Deputy Messaging is available to all customers. Learn more on how to activate Deputy Messaging here.

Messaging+ coming soon

With this rollout, you’ll have access to all Deputy Messaging features (including Messaging+) at no extra cost.
From October 1, Messaging+ will become a paid upgrade, offering advanced features like read receipts and polls.

Updated Help Centre

New Messaging help guides are available here.

Build Basic Shift Patterns In the Schedule

Rolling out to accounts is a very lightweight approach to be able build basic shift patterns for a set period of time such as:
  • Work 4 shifts
  • Rest for 2 days
Or any other combo you can think of! This works especially well for teams who work rotations that don't mirror up to your typical week and shifts are known well in advance.

To access this, from the add shift popup:

  1. Select options
  2. Select "Repeat for set pattern"
  3. Choose your pattern and end date
  4. Watch your shifts create until the end date you set

If you have any feedback, drop us a feature request and we'll continue to shape shift patterns together.

Monitor hours breakdown in schedule area view

What's New?

To help managers gain a clearer understanding of labor hours per area during scheduling, a new feature has been introduced:
  • Access it via: Schedule Tab → Insights dropdown → Show Hours in Areas
  • A breakdown of daily total hours by area, comparing:
    • Scheduled hours (including both filled shifts and all shifts)
    • Daily budgeted hours per area
    • Actual hours (from timesheets, available only when viewing past dates)
    • Compatible with sub shifts from Micro-scheduling

Why the Change?

By comparing budgeted, scheduled, and actual hours in one view, managers can make more informed, data-driven scheduling decisions—without the need to toggle Areas on and off in the Stats Panel to check daily hours data. This feature also serves as a valuable add-on, offering a more tailored experience for managers to monitor Micro-scheduling hours by area.

Flexible shift coverage with new open shifts location setting

What's new ✨

We're excited to introduce a new location setting that enables team members to claim and request open shifts, swaps and offers - even when they are marked as unavailable!

Why 🤔

Life is unpredictable - sometimes, team members may want to pick up shifts even when they are typically unavailable otherwise.

For managers, this setting opens up an extra pool of team members to fill shifts, reducing time and effort spent managing shift coverage. It's a win-win!

Rollout ✅

This location setting is now available to all accounts.

You can enable it by going to:

Locations > Edit Settings > Scheduling > Creating and publishing shifts
