Face Unlock changes on iOS Kiosk and Android Time Clock

What's new ✨

Since last year, Deputy has been making changes to the Face Unlock clock in feature on iOS Kiosk and Android Time Clock apps to protect the biometric privacy of our users.

Starting on February 20th, 2023, your business will need to update to the latest versions of these apps in order to continue using Face Unlock. Furthermore, each team member in your business must individually opt-in to using this feature (if they haven't already).

How to continue to use Face Unlock 👤

To continue to use Face Unlock for clocking in and out, you must ensure you have updated to the latest version of iOS Kiosk (5.3.1 or later) or Android Time Clock (0.10.1 or later).

Face Unlock will not automatically detect a team member's face until they have individually opted into using it. Read more about how to opt into Face Unlock as a team member for iOS Kiosk or Android Time Clock.

Check your Raw Metric Data in Business Insights Summary

What's new ✨

Deputy introduced a new Raw Data Viewer in Business Insights Summary that will enable managers to self-serve by checking you own raw metric data of Sales, Budget or any custom metric for selected Area week by week in a centralized place.

Why 🤔

We have improved the performance of loading your raw data much faster than the legacy sales data App which is only visible for Enterprise customers.  With the new Raw Data Viewer in Business Insights, all Deputy customers(regardless you are in Enterprise or Premium product) can loop through your own raw data and verify if your Sales Integration is working properly.

How to use it 🤓

You can access the Raw Data Viewer by simply opening up the Business Insights -> Summary, and click on "Metrics"

A new web-based Time Clock ⏱

What's new ✨

We rebuilt our web time clock from the ground up to bring you an easier way for your team to clock in and out.

This new Time Clock can run in a browser on any device, including your workplace tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

Time Clock home

Clocking in

Why 🤔

We found that some of our customers used devices that did not support running our iOS Kiosk or Android Time Clock apps and resorted to using our legacy Web Kiosk which did not support all of Deputy's latest features.

Some of our customers had staff that did not own smartphones or did not have accessible internet access at their place of work.

The new Web Time Clock is a great, lightweight alternative for these businesses as well as businesses who do not want to purchase additional hardware like tablets.

For those using the existing legacy Web Kiosk you will notice the new Web Time Clock:

  • has a new consistent design with the rest of Deputy
  • has a smart team member list for faster clock-ins
  • supports shift questions
  • supports editing timesheets (if enabled by your workplace)
  • supports showing team members from all your locations

How to use it 🤓

Check out how to use the new Web Time Clock.

Here are some things you should know:

  • as a manager, you'll be able to launch it directly from our website once you've logged in (no more hidden links) COMING SOON
  • it supports all the Deputy clock in and out features except for Shift Pulse and photo capture
  • it requires internet access and does not work offline

Got feedback to share? Go to Deputy > Help > Give us feedback

How to get it 🧪

Simply follow the steps on this page to set it up.

If you're already using the legacy Web Kiosk, simply PIN in and tap the "Update to the new Time Clock" banner at the top. If you need more help, follow these instructions.

New API Documentation Launched

What's new ✨

Third-party developer integrations continue to be an integral part of the Deputy ecosystem and providing clear, concise documentation to work with is key to these partnerships and developer success.

With this in mind, we've just launched our brand new API documentation site which can be found here. On the site, you will find a wide array of documentation to help you build an integration with Deputy such as:

  • Help Guides - Use-case-based guides take you through some of the most common integration use cases (such as retrieving timesheets) from A to Z.
  • Specific Industry Guides - Payroll, HR or POS app developer? We've got specific summary pages with the most important info for you to know.
  • Code Walkthroughs - Line-by-line code walkthroughs of some of our most popular endpoints.
  • Every element documented - Every element of the Deputy API system is documented
  • POSTMAN collection - We've released an official Deputy POSTMAN collection for you to download
  • API Reference - A full API reference of each endpoint is available including the ability to connect to the API directly from the documentation.

Why 🤔

This represents the first step in a list of many improvements we are planning to make to make integrating with Deputy even easier.

Documentation is a core cog in the API ecosystem as well. In a recent POSTMAN survey, documentation was just behind reliability, performance and security in importance for what matters most to developers when determining whether to build an integration. We understand that giving you the tools to self-serve during any development is critical to your integration success.

How to use it 🤓

Click here to open the docs. It's globally accessible now so please do have a look.

Got feedback to share? Email our team at apisupport@deputy.com or if you think a document needs updating, you can even suggest an edit directly from within the documentation. Just click this button which is shown on every page

We're super excited to launch these new API docs and other improvements we have in the pipeline. We can't wait to see what you build with them. As always if you have any feedback or need some help, our friendly API support team can be reached at apisupport@deputy.com. If you would like to discuss your Deputy integration with our partner team, they can be reached at partners@deputy.com.

Labor Model Improvements - Permission settings & Bulk actions

Labor model feature has been improved to be more flexible and easily managed in the centralized Business Insights!
What's new ✨

  • Administrators can restrict who can manage the labor models via Business Settings now.
    • Can View/Run Labor Model : Users who have been assigned with this permission will only be able to read and run the labor models that have been set up for them.
    • Can Modify/Delete Labor Model:  Users who have been assigned with this permission will have the full power to manage (add/edit/delete/copy) labor models in their managed locations.
    • For users who have neither of those 2 permissions,  they will not be able to see Labor models in Business Insights.
    • Enterprise customers can also set those permissions in the Employee Role app.
  • We also introduced Bulk Actions for labor model.
    • Bulk Delete will allow managers to delete selected labor models by one click.
    • Bulk Copy will enable managers to easily duplicate selected labor models from one location to other locations.

Why 🤔

Labor model is a powerful tool that will help you to make data driven decisions for your scheduling which will make a big impact on your business performance.

With the new permissions and bulk actions in place, you can manage your labor models in one centralized location and easily duplicate to other locations by your authorized managers only.

Create your own Employee Onboarding questions

What's new ✨

You can now create and ask your own Employee onboarding questions to suit your business needs.

The current onboarding form collects basic personal, banking and tax information, but what if you need to collect other important business-specific questions from your new hire?

For example “have you had a workers' compensation claim?”, “what’s your uniform size?”, “do you have a preferred location?”.. the options are endless.

Why 🤔

Keep it all within Deputy - you won’t need to use a separate system to collect and store additional information about your team members.

Unique & flexible - the flexibility to ask any question that might be specific to the business, whether it’s a short answer, Yes/No or multiple choice

Reusable - create it once and the questions will be included in all new onboards

How to use it 🤓

Click here to read more about how to use it

Got feedback to share? Submit it here.

How to get it 🧪

This feature will be progressively rolled out to all customers in the next week.

Coming Soon: New multi-location selector for your schedule

What’s new ✨

You will have the ability to multi-select any combination of areas in the new schedule location selector (web).

Why 🤔

  • Flexibility with Multi-Select Locations - Making the schedule view more relevant by only showing exactly what you want. You can select any combination of locations & areas when scheduling
  • Efficiency - If you need to view and work across multiple areas and locations, you can now select them all in one go without having to frequently change location
  • System Performance - By showing only what you want, the Deputy platform doesn’t have to find all the shifts and staff you don’t currently need to look at. This helps the schedule perform faster and is one of a long list of upcoming performance enhancements we have planned — stay tuned!

How to use it

  1. Navigate to the schedule and you’ll find the new location selector where it’s always been
  2. Choose "Select Multiple"
  3. Select which areas and/or locations you’d like to view
  4. Hit "Done" to view your selection on your schedule
